Upcoming Activities

The SIG is undertaking the following activities in the first quarter of 2006.  In the second quarter we'll report where we are and come up with a new list of activities:

  • Appointing a 5-7 person advisory board with representatives from every region in the state
  • Recruiting speakers for two meetings in the Portland area (next one is in May) and two in Bangor at EMMC
  • Developing the communities of interest to be represented on the SIG's Best Practice Web page - communities suggested so far include: Strategic Planning, Marketing/Quality (these appear to lead into one another), Operations, Finance, Career Development, Construction, Organizational Change - we need more input here! We also are compiling a list of all the health care special Interest groups so that we all know who everyone is, what their interests are, what data they have and their ability to share their resources with others.

    Survey Questions:

    1. As a HC professional what is your biggest workplace challenge?

    2. What do you preceive as the most valuable service the HC Sig can provide?

    3. Which of the five UNE PM courses is the most valuable?

    4. What HC project should the SIG support as a community service project?

We have conducted a survey to obtain the following information: (click here for the survey results)
    • HC Industry Challenges/Needs
    • SIG services desired (including web page services)
    • Highest priority training needs
    • Recommendations for a Community Service Project to be adopted by the SIG (see fourth bullet below)

If you did not participate in this survey and want to provide your thoughts on these matters email us with your postal mail address.

  • Becoming associated with the Maine Hospital Association to facilitate communication of the SIG's existence and services to the state's 35 community hospitals.
  • Assisting the University of New England's College of Health Professions to develop a five course Health Care Project Management Certificate program - this program is the first of its kind in the country - see this web page for the program description at www.une.edu/chp/cpe/hcpm.asp The program is now fully developed - courses can be taken at UNE's Westbrook Campus in Portland or at one of six hospitals across the state - let us know if your institution desires to host an on site program.
  • Gathering a library of Healthcare Project Management books, articles, DVDs, movies and software to be housed at the College of Health Care Professions at University of New England and let out to institutions across the state (we'll trust you to bring them back!)
  • Developing a list of Healthcare projects underway or proposed that the SIG can adopt as a Community Service Project. The adopted project will get free PM advice, assistance in fund raising ( we happen to have a large number of grant writers and very efficient beggars in our ranks) , free PR advertising vis a vis the Chapter's numerous well read communications ( e.g. the newsletter, the web page, the chapter newspaper ads, the Project of the Year Competition, and the ability to make present at monthly meetings) and free assistance in developing marketing materials and connections with influential sponsors and or institutions willing to operate prototypes.
